Steven Ortiz Joins Men’s Soccer Staff as Assistant Coach
August 06, 2024 | Men's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Men's Soccer Head Coach Brian Plotkin has announced Steven Ortiz as Men's Soccer Assistant Coach.
Ortiz will serve as the primary goalkeeping coach for the Black Knights.
"We are excited about Steven joining the program. He comes highly recommended for his ability to train and develop goalkeepers. He is a motivated young coach and has a natural charisma that all of the program will benefit from. We can't wait to see his impact on our team," said Plotkin.
The native of Linden, N.J. comes to West Point from STA Soccer, a youth soccer club based in New Jersey. With STA, he served as head goalkeepers coach for STA Mount Olive in 2023 and moved to a similar capacity with STA Morristown in 2024.
From 2018-2020, Ortiz worked in the New York Red Bulls Academy, working in summer camps including RDS and regular day and residential camps. He assisted goalkeeper coach Stephen Palmer during camps and pre-academy sessions. For seven months Ortiz also served as the interim goalkeeper coach for the pre-academy.
Previously, from 2017 to 2018, Ortiz coached with Cedar Stars Academy in New Jersey.
Ortiz entered the coaching sphere after stints playing for Madriz FC in the Nicaraguan Liga Primera, and for the National Independent Soccer Association's Flower City Union. Before his professional playing career, Ortiz played at Kean University and Fairleigh Dickinson University.
