August 28, 2024 | Women's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point women's soccer made it four wins in a row with a big 2-1 victory over Samford.
Brigid Duffy had missed the first four games of the season while she was away with the U20 Team USA lacrosse team where she scored 18 goals and had three assists en route to a gold medal. She made her debut tonight after only three practices and instantly made an impact off the bench. She entered the game in the 30th minute and proceeded to score off a couple deflections inside the box in the 34th minute.
The Black Knights would keep the pressure on the Bulldogs, racking up six first half shots, half of which were on frame. It was a back-and-forth game with Samford managing seven shots, four of which were on target but goalkeeper Sage Strohman was able to keep the Bulldogs off the board in the first 45.
The first 15 minutes of the second half was much of the same with each team getting chances but neither scoring. In the 61st minute, Samford sent a cross in that made it all the way across the box and it was put in by Brooklyn Miller to knot things up at 1-1.
Army wouldn't take a draw though, in the 79th minute Cami Silvestro sent a ball in that Kaelan Bradley sent to Keira Vesy who slotted it home to give the Black Knights a 2-1 lead with just over 10 minutes to play.
The Black Knights would successfully kill off the rest of the clock to earn a big win over a strong Samford side. Strohman was incredible in net once again, finishing with seven saves on the night. As a team Army got off 13 shots and eight on target.
Army moves to 4-1-0 on the year with another home game on Sunday against Providence at 1pm.
