BOULDER, Colo. — Army West Point dropped its second straight decision to open the season, falling 6-0 to Colorado on Sunday afternoon at Prentup Field.

Colorado struck first in the seventh minute on a goal from Hope Leyba and added a second off the foot of Michaela McGowan in the 18th minute. The Buffaloes pulled away in a five-minute span late in the first half, scoring twice more — from Kotschau and McGowan again — to take a 4-0 lead into the break. Colorado tacked on goals from Sloane Phillips in the 49th minute and Sienna McAthy out of a corner set piece to close out the scoring.

The Black Knights showed fight throughout the match. Junior goalkeeper Karalyn Dail turned in a standout performance between the posts, tying a career-high eight saves across all 90 minutes and repeatedly denying a Colorado attack that piled up 21 shots and 15 shots on goal. Dail kept the game within reach through the opening 20 minutes, and her ability to track and react against a persistent Buffaloes attack — including back-to-back stops in the second half on shots from Ruby Hayward and Lexi Meyer.

Army's defense continued competing for loose balls and blocking lanes, limiting a talented Colorado front line to a manageable number of clean looks. The Black Knights' bench stayed active, rotating nine different substitutes into the match to keep legs fresh and search for a spark. Freshman Kamryn McWhinney played a physical, committed match before picking up a yellow card in the 27th minute, part of an Army back line that battled hard against a Colorado team that entered the day unbeaten.
