Men's Lacrosse Bows Out in Patriot League Semifinal Overtime Heartbreaker

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The historic 2024 Army West Point men's lacrosse season came to a close Friday afternoon in the Patriot League semifinals after a heartbreaking overtime loss to No. 20 Boston U.
Army jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter behind goals from Avi Mehl, Gunnar Fellows, and Ryan Sellew. BU would rattled off the next three goals to knot things back up before Jacon Morin and Reese Burek would score the final two goals of the first half to take a 5-3 lead into the locker room.
Two goals from the Terriers tied things up a five apiece to start the third quarter. Jackson Eicher responded followed by a Mehl goal to give Army a 7-5 lead with 6:45 left in the third. The back and forth affair continued as BU tied it up with 6:48 left in the fourth quarter.
Eicher gave Army the lead once again with 5:32 left to play. A minute and a half later BU tied things up yet again before Evan Plunkett scored to give Army the lead with 2:09 left to play.
After that chaos ensued. BU scored two goals in 13 seconds to take their first lead of the day with just 1:06 left to go, three seconds later, Will Coletti won the faceoff and took it himself to tie it back up.
Army took a penalty to close out the fourth quarter to allow BU to start the overtime frame with the ball. Just 23 seconds into the frame, BU scored the game winner to advance to Sunday's championship game.
