April 20, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
LEWISBURG, PA - Army West Point women's lacrosse (8-7, 6-2 Patriot League) secured the third seed in the Patriot League Tournament with a 21-14 victory over Bucknell (5-9, 3-5 Patriot League) on Saturday afternoon.
Army will now officially host a Patriot League quarterfinal contest on Sunday, April 28th at noon from Michie Stadium. Admission will be free for the matchup with an opponent to be determined based on this upcoming Thursday's results.
Allison Reilly led the way for Army in this one, posting a game-high 11 points behind seven assists which matched Kathleen Sullivan's single-same program record.
Reaching milestones was a theme throughout the contest for the sophomore duo of Reilly and Brigid Duffy, who each broke Army's single-season points record just minutes apart. Duffy had set the standard in 2023 with 82 points, and reached 85 points this season in the win over the Bison while Reilly now sits at 88. Duffy also recorded her 24th caused turnover this season, which also set a single-season program record for the Black Knights.
Duffy finished with five goals in total to go along with two assists and six draw controls. Gabrielle Mirak and Ryan Remaly added hat tricks for the Black Knights, with Remaly also securing three draw controls in her second career start.
Both sides found the back of the net early on in the game, with 12 goals being scored in the first quarter including half of Bucknell's eventual 14 tallies. Alyce Smith picked up where she left off last week for the Black Knights to score the first of the game for Army off an assist from Duffy, who then deposited Army's second. The Black Knights then trailed 6-3 with 2:57 to play in the quarter after Bucknell answered with a pair of goals following a Julia Gorajek score.
Reilly then got her big scoring day started late in the first, scoring twice on a pair of unassisted goals to bring to within two at 7-5 through one quarter of play. Bucknell outshot Army 11-8 in the first 15 minutes while Army won the draw 7-6.
The second quarter saw Army dominate all phases of the game, outscoring the Bison 8-2. Mirak got her first two of the game within a minute of each other to quickly tie the game at seven before Remaly and Lily Valentini each scored on a woman-up opportunity. Duffy and Reilly quickly added goals which saw a 6-0 Army run within the first five minutes of the frame to make it 11-7 in Army's favor. Valentini then notched another woman-up tally ro bring it to a 12-7 scoreline.
Bucknell fought back with a pair of goals to get back within three, but that would be the closest margin for the remainder of the game after a Duffy goal with nine second left in the half made it 13-9 Black Knights at the half.
Duffy notched the first two scores of the second half to give Army more breathing room, both assisted by Reilly, as part of a 4-0 spurt to begin the final half four. Army shut out the Bison for the opening 14:27 of the half, with Carleigh Armstrong and Reilly adding goals to make it a 17-10 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Remaly opened the fourth quarter scoring with her second of the game, before her and Mirak each secured their hat tricks in the closing munutes of the game. Reilly notched her seventh helper of the afternoon in the final minute to tie the record with a feed to Emma Grace Hepler who tabbed her second goal of the season.
Army won the draw 22-16 and outshot the Bison 39-30 in the eventual 21-14 win. Ellie Nawa secured a career-high seven draw controls off the bench seeing extended time in the draw circle, while Mirak also set a career-best with her three goal effort.
The Black Knights will conclude the regular season with a trip to Colgate on Thursday with opening draw set for 5:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
