Softball Takes Down Lafayette in Comeback Win

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point softball team (10-27, 6-6 PL) staged a remarkable comeback in an eight-inning thriller against Lafayette (5-27, 1-8 PL).

Army took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI from Julia Farris, bringing Kayla Edwards home.

The Black Knights' starting pitcher, Lauren Levendoski, maintained Lafayette's scoreless streak through four innings, extending her impressive form from the previous game.

However, Lafayette broke through in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run home run, taking the lead 2-1.

Despite Lafayette's momentum, Army's defense held strong, preventing further scoring until the top of the fifth inning when Lafayette added two more runs with back-to-back RBI.

Trailing until the bottom of the seventh, Army mounted a comeback as Edwards hit a double down the left field line, scoring Sam Bocis. Ashton White followed with a single to right center, bringing Kayla Edwards home and narrowing the deficit to one run. Lauren Little then forced extra innings with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the eighth, Army's relief pitcher, Amanda Eaglin, shut down Lafayette's offense, giving Army the opportunity to complete the comeback.

With two outs, Edwards stepped up to the plate. A sacrifice bunt from Bocis placed Ellie Caldwell in scoring position. Edwards then sealed the series victory and the comeback with an RBI single, sending Caldwell home.

Edwards had an outstanding performance, going three-for-five with two RBI, while Little also shined, batting two-for-three with one RBI.

Army will hit the road again on Wednesday, facing in a doubleheader Central Connecticut at 1:00 PM.
