Softball Splits Doubleheader with Lafayette

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team (9-27, 5-6 PL) split their doubleheader against Lafayette (4-26, 1-7).
GAME ONE
Army's starting pitcher, Amanda Eaglin, held Lafayette at bay in the first inning, allowing only one hit and no runs.
In the bottom of the first, Army took an early lead. Leadoff hitters Parker Llantero and Kayla Edwards both singled to get on base. Ashton White then drove Llantero home with an RBI single.
Llantero advanced to second, and Samantha Smith was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Julia Farris drew a walk, bringing in another run for Army, making it 2-0.
Emma Muchinson followed with a single, bringing in another run, extending Army's lead to 3-0. Mia Bonsignore's fielder's choice brought in another run, making it 4-0. Ellie Calwell capped off the inning with an RBI single, putting Army ahead 5-0.
Eaglin continued her solid pitching in the second inning, holding Lafayette scoreless once again.
In the bottom of the second, Kayla Edwards led off with a double to right center and scored on an error, extending Army's lead to 6-0.
Both teams remained scoreless until the top of the sixth when Lafayette scored two runs off an RBI double.
Army's relief pitcher, Katelyn Flanders, shut down Lafayette for the remainder of the game, securing a 6-2 victory for Army.
GAME 2
Both teams were held scoreless through the first inning and a half. It wasn't until the bottom of the second that Army's Parker Llantero hit an RBI double, driving in Mikayla Klepfer and Breanna Izzo.
Lafayette got on the board in the top of the third with a late-inning RBI single, cutting Army's lead to one.
The game turned into a pitching duel, with neither team able to score until Lafayette took the lead in the top of the sixth, capitalizing on an error and a wild pitch.
Army's relief pitcher, Lauren Levendoski, struck out all six batters she faced, but Army couldn't muster another run, falling to Lafayette 3-2.
