February 09, 2024 | Women's Track and Field
BOSTON – The Army West Point women's track and field team competed in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday at Boston U.
Claire Lewis had one of better performances of the day running a 16:50.88 in the 5000m to come in fourth place.
Emma Taylor earned a top 10 performance in the 400m dash with a time of 54.85.
Louisa Diamond finished in the top 25 of the 5000m with a time of 17:28.09.
Tomorrow the men will compete. Next up for the women is the West Point Tune Up which is the last event before the Patriot League Championships on Feb. 23-24
COACHES CORNER
We brought a small group up here to Boston to get one more crack at the BU track before the conference meet. Some of the best runners in the world are here competing so we expected to see some outstanding times on the track. We put Emma Taylor in the 400 for the first time this year and she responded by running the 2nd fastest time in Army history. It was a solo effort for her and a dominant one at that. Her heat winning time of 54.85 was 8th overall today and she now trails only Calli McMullen on the all-time list. Mikayla Cheney continued her relentless assault on our all-time lists by running the fastest time for the mile in Army history. A year ago at this meet Georgia Jones set the all-time mark running 4:45.99. Today, Mikayla bested that mark by over a second dropping a 4:44.94 and improving her own personal best by 2 seconds from the mark she established last weekend..and she has a lot more gas in the tank in my opinion. We also had a few nice improvements in the 5000 meters from Claire Lewis (16:50 #5 all-time) and Charlotte Richman (16:37 #3 all-time). The men take over the track on Saturday and we will be looking for some more improvements to our all-time lists.
