Track and Field Wraps Up Busy Weekend of Competition

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point track and field program wrapped up a busy weekend of competition at the Raleigh Relays and the UCF Knights Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Army, who sent a number of runners to Raleigh and the rest of the team to Orlando, saw great success in a number of events. This weekend marked the second of the outdoor season after the Black Knights opened its spring slate at home last week.
Raleigh Relays
The Black Knights competed in all three days (Thursday-Saturday) of the NC State-hosted meet and saw impressive success on the track. Charlotte Richman and Mikayla Cheney each set program records on Friday night. In the 5,000m, Richman posted a remarkable 15:52.42 to finish 10th – sixth among collegiate entries – and set a new Army record. Cheney posted the fastest Army time in the 1,500m with a time of 4:15.54 to finish 14th.
On Thursday, Nathan Davis finished 31st in the men's 5,000m with a time of 14:02.21. Maximus Haynia put together a 62nd-place finish at 14:14.65. The only other Thursday competitor for Army was Anthony Diaz, who finished 77th in the men's 10,000m.
Friday saw Claire Lewis finish 21st in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10.25.23. In addition to Richman's impressive performance in the 5,000m, Louis Diamond finished 53rd at 16:36.39.
Alma Lazo Cazares was Army's lone runner on Saturday, placing 51st in the 800m at 2:10.71.
UCF Knights Invitational
Army found a lot of success in Orlando on Friday and Saturday, winning seven events and posting 13 podium results.
On the women's field side, Kiana Emerson had a strong showing in the hammer throw, winning the event with a mark of 57.35m. The distance is No. 5 all-time in program history. Jordan Hecht also shined in the shot put, finishing second with a distance of 16.23m.
Elce Walsh finished second in the women's pole vault at 3.82m.
In men's field events, Matthew Palchak had the Black Knights first victory of the weekend. The sophomore thrower won the shot put with the fifth-best distance in program history at 17.83m. Robby Manse finished fifth at 16.78m.
In the discus, Jacob Bowersock reach 51.97m to finished third.
On the track, Army dominated the women's 800m. Skye Chambers won the race with a blistering time of 2:07.71, with Lauren Gallagher finishing just behind her at 2:08.39. Sabrina Sardar also finished seventh in the event.
In the women's 3,000m steeplechase, freshman Abigail Ringwood finished first at 10:42.92, while Alexandra Volkart was second at 11:00.69.
Todd Worth had Army's first men's track win of the weekend, recording a 1:50.59 in the 800m. Jack Musgrave finished fourth with a time of 1:51.32. In the 3,000m steeplechase, freshman Andrew Lee finished first at 9:15.04.
The foursome of Jaxon Hammond, Owen Lang, Josh Duncan and Trey McGinnis posted a strong time of 39.88 in the 4x100m relay to win the event by two-tenths of a second. The team of Griffin Frankfather, Levi Ferrell, Dylan Foster and Owen Hoag finished in fourth at 41.61.
In the 4x400m relay, Ammon Smith, Kasen Jeitz, Musgrave and Canyon Hall finished third at 3:20.42.
In total, Army finished the two-day event hosted by UCF with 49 top-10 finishes.
