Baseball Rides Nine-Run Third Inning to Win at Stetson
February 24, 2024 | Baseball
Five Black Knights had multiple hits and four drove multiple runs in as Army had its most robust offensive performance of the season to date.
William Parker, Thomas Schreck and Braden Golinski recorded three RBIs each in the win, with Golinski hitting two home runs.
Parker wasted no time getting the Black Knights (3-3) on the scoreboard, powering a solo home run to left field in the second inning.
Carter Hewitt scored on a wild pitch to open what would be a wild third inning for the Army bats. Sam Ruta brought in two runs off a double, Golinski hit his first homer of the evening, Ethan Ellis had his first RBI of the season before Schreck cleared the bases with a three-run double to make it 10-0. A Parker sacrifice fly in the fourth extended the offensive onslaught early.
The Hatters got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run. They continued to trim the Army lead in the fifth with solo and two-run homers to make it 11-5.
But the Black Knights answered with Golinski's second home run and Parker's third RBI in the sixth to make it 13-5.
Starting pitcher Mike Ruggieri struck out five batters over 4.2 innings. Joe Valchar tossed 3.1 frames in relief and earned the win. Trey Ates pitched the ninth to close the game.
