Baseball Defeats Maine to Conclude Florida Weekend
February 25, 2024 | Baseball
DeLAND, Fla. – Army West Point Baseball was seeking a win Sunday to leave the Sunshine State with a winning record on the weekend and the season. The Black Knights got just that, dispatching Maine at Stetson University on Sunday morning, 8-2.
For the second game in a row, Army (4-3) never trailed, scoring in the second inning and keeping the lead for the remainder of the matchup.
Chris Barr drove in two runs while going 3-for-4 with a walk, Braden Golinski was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs, and Ethan Ellis also had two RBIs while hitting a home run, scoring twice and drawing a walk.
Ellis' homer gave the Black Knights a 2-0 lead in the second, before Army extended its cushion in the third with a Golinski RBI single.
After Maine scored a run in the fourth, the Black Knights answered with a trio to go ahead 6-1. Barr recorded a two-out, two-run single before Derek Berg scored on a double steal.
The Army pitchers escaped numerous jams throughout the afternoon to preserve the lead. Maine left a pair of runners on base in the sixth, and were unable to cash in an inning later despite having runners on second and third base with nobody out, thanks to a pair of Andrew Berg strikeouts in the frame.
Army put a cherry on top of its performance in the eighth, with RBIs from Golinski and William Parker.
