12-0 Run Powers #5 Men's Lacrosse Past Mercer 15-7

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The no. 5/6/7 Army West Point men's lacrosse team moved to 3-0 for the first time since 2020 with a 15-7 win over Mercer on Saturday afternoon in Michie Stadium.
Will Coletti made history yet again this week becoming the program record holder for ground balls, breaking Eric Waltz record of 288. He now has 290 career ground balls. He also tacked on two goals which is a new career-high.
Mercer scored first but then the Black Knights rattled off one of the more impressive runs this season. After going a man up, Gunnar Fellows and Avi Mehl put Army up 2-1. Fellows added his second seven minutes later to make it 3-1. Then Coletti rattled off two goals in 12 seconds making it 5-1 Army. Just 26 seconds later, Finn McCullough made it 6-1 to close the first quarter.
The second quarter was all Black Knights as well. Bailey O'Connor and Eamon Murphy scored and Jackson Eicher scored twice to take a 10-1 lead into halftime. After scoring the first two goals of the third quarter it was a 12-0 Black Knight run. The Army defense held Mercer scoreless for over 30 consectuive minutes to take a commanding lead that they would never look back from.
Down 12-1, the Bears attempted to mount a comeback, rattling off the next five goals but the Black Knights responded by scoring three in a row to go up 15-6. Mercer would tack on one more goal late but Army would hold on for a 15-7 win.
In three games this season, Jackson Eicher now has eight goals to lead the team. He also tacked on an assist today and now has 10 points which is tied to the team lead with Reese Burek.
Matt Chess was outstanding in net, only allowing one goal, and making eight saves.
Next up is a huge matchup in Syracuse against the no. 6/8/9 Orange on Wednesday night at 6 PM.
