Hockey Suffers Defeat in Game Two at Canisius

BUFFALO, NY - Army West Point hockey (2-5-0, 2-4-0 AHA) was shut down by Canisius (3-6-0, 3-0-0 AHA) in game two of the series, suffering a 6-1 defeat.
Ethan Robertson finished the two-game set allowing just one goal in net for the Golden Griffins. Pierce Patterson got Army on the board with a late goal in the third period, his first of the season off a faceoff win from Michael Sacco.
Jacob Biron entered in goal during the third period to make his collegiate debut in his hometown and former home rink in Buffalo. Biron made seven saves while allowing one goal in 15-plus minutes of action.
Army had its opportunities early with a pair of power-plays and would then take a penalty while it's on third power-play of the first period. Once Canisius got the man-advantage, Kash Rasmussen put the home team in front 1-0 on their first extra-man chance of the game.
Less than a minute later, Hunter Andrew capitalized with a goal and Canisius took a 2-0 lead into the second period.
After the teams played scoreless for the first 15 minutes of the second frame, special teams once again played a role, with Canisius netting another score on the power-play. Army trailed 3-0 going into the third period.
The Black Knights conceded to the first shift of the final frame, then allowing a shorthanded goal to Dominic Payne which put the game out of reach at 5-0 under 16 minutes to play. Canisius added a sixth through Cody Schiavon at the 10:26 mark.
The Black Knights got on the board late with Pierce Patterson scoring his first of the season with Sacco getting the helper.
Army won 34 of 62 faceoffs in the game and were outshot 34-28 as Canisius earned the sweep.
Army will return home for a conference series against Niagara on Nov. 8-9.Â
