January 03, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
SPARKS, MD - Army West Point women's lacrosse has been selected No. 13 in the USA Lacrosse Division I Preseason Top 20 rankings, announced today.
The Black Knights move up four spots from its end-of-season ranking of No. 17 this past season, as it also marks the first time in program history receiving a preseason top-20 nod.
Army is coming off a 15-4 campaign in 2023, having reached the NCAA Tournament with an at-large bid, marking its first ever appearance in the big dance. The Black Knights defeated four ranked teams as part of the run, featuring its first win over a top-10 program in its defeat of Rutgers in February.
The Black Knights notably return All-American Brigid Duffy who had a breakout plebe campaign before earning Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors. Julia Gorajek and Carleigh Armstrong have also earned All-Patriot League honors in their careers at Army, and will look to lead the attack this season along with sophomore Allison Reilly, who joined Duffy and Tumolo on the USA U20 squad this past summer and fall. Army also returns its goaltending tandem of Lacey Bartholomay and Lindsey Serafine, who led Army to the number two defense in the conference last season.
The new season does bring change to the coaching staff, as reigning Patriot League Coach of the Year Michelle Tumolo added Sammy Cermack, Katie Erbe and Charlotte Sofield to the staff this offseason.
The Black Knights open the campaign against a pair of ranked opponents, with USC landing at No. 16 and Syracuse tabbing No. 5. Loyola is the lone other Patriot League program to make the cut, coming in at No. 9 as Army is the lone service academy in the rankings.
