Brigid Duffy Named USA Lacrosse Preseason First Team All-American
January 17, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
Duffy is the lone underclassman to land on the first team and is the first player in program history to garner Preseason All-American honors.
The Queensbury, N.Y., native posted a program-record 82 points this past season on her way to Patriot League Rookie of the Year and All-Patriot League first team honors. Atop the national leaderboards in goals and points among freshmen throughout the season, Duffy was the top scoring rookie in the country in the regular season with 56 goals. In the conference, she ranked second in goals and points while ranking tenth in assists (26), fifth in draw controls (90) and ninth in caused turnovers (18) on her way to five Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors and a Midfielder of the Week award. She was a midseason addition to the Tewaaraton Award Watch list, the annual award given to the top collegiate player in the country. Duffy earned All-American honors from USA Lacrosse (Second Team) and ILWomen (Third Team) following the season, being the first Cadet in program history to tab All-American recognition.
Duffy helped lead Army to its most successful season to date in 2023, reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history with an at-large bid. The Black Knights defeated four ranked programs on the way to the program's first-ever national ranking and Patriot League Championship game appearance.
This past summer and fall, Duffy competed with the USA Lacrosse U20 Women's National Team along with teammate Allison Reilly and head coach Michelle Tumolo, who serves as an assistant coach on the USA U20 staff.
Duffy has also had a standout career on the soccer pitch at West Point, earning All-Patriot League first team recognition this past season after leading Army in goals and points while helping the Black Knights to consecutive Patriot League regular season championships.
Army joins Maryland and Notre Dame as the lone three schools to land an athlete on the first team on both the men's and women's side, with AJ Pilate also earning the distinction for the men's lacrosse program.
#13 Army opens the season at home against #16 USC on Friday, February 9th before traveling to #5 Syracuse on Valentine's Day.
