Five Named USA Lacrosse Preseason All-Americans
January 17, 2024 | Men's Lacrosse
SPARKS, MD – The Army West Point men's lacrosse team had five named USA Lacrosse Preseason All-Americans, as announced today.
Junior defender AJ Pilate was named to the first team. He's coming off of a 2023 campaign that saw him take home Third Team All-American honors as well at Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year. He caused 17 turnovers in 17 starts last season and scooped up 35 ground balls. He was massive against Navy forcing three turnovers.
Senior midfielder Jacob Morin was named to the third team after a career year in 2023. The Auburn, N.Y. native scored 36 goals and had six assists but no goal was bigger than the go ahead goal in the first-round of the NCAA tournament to knock off defending national champions Maryland.
Evan Plunkett, Reese Burek, and Will Coletti were all named honorable mentions. Plunkett is coming off an impressive freshman campaign where he scored 21 goals and had 25 assists. He registered a point in all but three games last season. Burek scored 35 goals last season including 11 multi-goal games. He registered a point in every game last season. Coletti burst onto the scene last season as one of the best faceoff specialist in the season. He went an impressive 252-413 in the faceoff circle last season and shattered the program record with 158 ground balls.
Army joins Maryland and Notre Dame as the lone three schools to land an athlete on the first team on both the men's and women's side, with AJ Pilate also earning the distinction for the men's lacrosse program.
No. 8 Army will open its season on Feb. 10 in Atlanta against UMass.
