January 14, 2024 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Army West Point track and field team finished the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday.
On the women's side, Army won the 4x400 relay with a season best time of 3:47.94.
The Black Knights took home second, third, and fourth. Quinn Collins, Shayla Bonzelet, and Kara Sinnott put up strong performances.
For the men, Joshua Duncan placed third in the 200m with a time of 22.15. Luke Griner won the 400m with a time of 48.32. The men's 4x400 placed second at 3:14.66.
Next up for the Black Knights is a trip to Staten Island, N.Y. for the Villanova Invitational on Jan. 20.
COACHES CORNER
Our collective intensity was quite a bit better today. The men and women in the shot put had some nice marks. I expect our veterans to compete at the top of a meet like this and Kayley Ragazzini did a nice job of showing some consistency in her series today. And while I know she wanted to throw farther I think she did well today. Our high jumpers were all jumping at personal best bars. Austin Hernandez had the best series that he has ever had and the women had some good attempts at some high bars. On the track Luke Griner was the star for the second day in a row. He won the 400 meter race convincingly by measuring his effort early and then pouncing on the leader coming off the last turn cruising home easily to get the win. We ended up winning four events at this meet and Luke won 2 of them. We closed out the meet with two strong performances in the 4x400. The men ran a season best time in placing second and the the women's team was particularly good in racing to the win. The women's time of 3:47.94 ranks as the third fastest time ever run by an Army women's quartet. It was an exciting race and a great way to close out the weekend.
