Men's Lacrosse Endows Head Coaching Position After Jack Emmer
September 25, 2023 | Men's Lacrosse
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point men's lacrosse announced that the head coaching position will be named after legendary coach Jack Emmer.
Joe Alberici will now be the Jack Emmer Head Coach of Army West Point Men's Lacrosse.
"I am honored to serve as the Jack Emmer Army Men's Lacrosse Coach," Alberici said. "Like so many in the Army Lacrosse Family, Coach Emmer has had a profound and positive effect on my life. I am grateful for the generosity of our alumni who have made this possible."
In his career Emmer spent 22 seasons at West Point where he won a program record 186 games. In his first year at West Point the Black Knights reached the final four after beating Penn 8-7 in the NCAA Quarterfinals. When he retired, he left as the all-time D1 wins leader with 326.
Emmer coached 27 All-Americans in his 22 years at the Academy, including first team All-American and Tewaaraton Award Finalist John Walker (USMA '06). Emmer led Army into league play when the Patriot League was formed in 1991. The Black Knights did not lose a game to a conference foe in their first 25 contests, reeling off one of the nation's longest conference winning streaks. That string still stands as the longest in Patriot League history. Army's peerless leader guided the Black Knights back into the NCAA Tournament in 2005 for the eighth time and the 15th time overall for the storied program.
The seven-figure gift in honor of Coach Jack Emmer will allow the Men's Lacrosse program to financially benefit in perpetuity. The team endowment allows our program to provide critical resources to our cadet-athletes. Developing leaders of character through our values of Duty, Honor and Country is the priority of the program.
This investment will enable Army West Point Lacrosse to:
• Build, maintain, and refurbish state-of-the-art practice, competition, and support facilities as well as technological infrastructure
• Create a diverse and inclusive environment that supports a broad-based lacrosse program
• Recruit and retain the best staff, coaches, and cadet-athletes
• Sustain financial stability and work toward self-sufficiency
• Provide unparalleled athletic experiences for cadet-athletes and fans
