Army falls to Michigan State

West Point, NY – Despite creating multiple scoring chances the Army West Point men's soccer team fell to Michigan State Friday night.
How it Happened
Throughout the entire 90 minutes, Army put together fantastic offensive pressure. Starting it off was freshman Jubril Bamgbala who had a great scoring opportunity within the first seven minutes.
He didn't waste much time creating another chance and scoring in the 8th minute. A shot from forward Joey Hickson bounced off a Spartan, coming right back to Bamgbala as he put it in the back of the net.
Michigan State defender Jeremy Sharp took a corner kick in the 22nd minute resulting in the tying goal for the Spartans, as fellow defenseman Josh Mason put it past the Army keeper.
The Black Knights kept the pressure on seeing quality scoring chances as time wound down in the first half. In the 24th minute, Army defender Nick Atkinson sent a great cross over to the goal scorer Bamgbala whose shot was eventually blocked away by the Spartans.
Keeper Zac Kelly came out of the Michigan State net in the 51st minute giving Jacob Lee of Army a great scoring opportunity with an open net. The shot was sent just high above the goal and the game remained tied one to one.
Shortly after Jonathan Stout put the Spartans on top with a well-aimed wide-angle shot that beat the keeper high corner.
Army put together a great response sending a header directly on goal forcing Kelly to make a tough save.
As the second half continued on the Black Knights put together multiple chances to tie the game. Mostly notably by Jacob Lee again in the 83rd minute as he found himself net front with the ball but his shot was blocked and the Spartans closed out the game winning 2-1.
Army put together a tough battle and head coach Brian Plotkin shared his thoughts after the game saying "Proud of the way we competed tonight but in the end, the game is decided by small moments… credit to Michigan State on a hard-fought win. We will grow from this and be ready next week"
Army's next matchup will be another home game next Friday night against St. Joseph's at 6 PM.
