August 17, 2023 | Men's Lacrosse
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army men's lacrosse head coach Joe Alberici announced the return of Rick Lewis as an assistant coach on Friday afternoon.
"I am fired up to have Rick back in the Army Lacrosse Family!" Alberici said. "He played a big part in our successes in 2019 and 2020 seasons. His energy and insights will no doubt have a positive impact on our team and coaching staff."
Lewis returns to the banks of the Hudson after a three-year stint at his alma mater Ohio State where he served as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator for the Buckeyes.
In 2022 the Buckeyes scored a program record 14.1 goals per game under his leadership which was ranked eighth best in the nation. He also served as the academic liaison and helped the student-athletes set a program record for performance in the classroom.
Lewis was previously a volunteer assistant coach at Army from 2019-2020.
Prior to Army, he coached high school and club lacrosse in his home state of Georgia. He played a big role in developing the sport throughout the state. Lewis served as the offensive coordinator at Lambert High School where he led the Longhorns to a state title in 2018 as the team finished with a perfect 22-0 record. Lewis was the Georgia High School Athletic Association Assistant Coach of the Year.
As a player, Lewis was drafted in the 2015 National Lacrosse League Draft by the Georgia Swarm. He was also drafted in the Major League Lacrosse Draft by the Atlanta Blaze. Lewis was the first-ever Georgia native to sign with the Georgia Swarm.
