Softball Wins Two, Clinches Spot Into the Patriot League Tournament

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team (19-35, 9-8 PL) swept the Saturday doubleheader vs. the Colgate Raiders (17-30, 6-11 PL) to clinch a spot into the Patriot League Tournament next weekend.
Game 1
Trailing 4-0 early, Army battled through early inning adversity to comeback to win Game 1 of the Saturday doubleheader, 5-4.
Senior pitcher Alicyn Grete settled down after giving up four runs in the first two innings, to pitch all eight innings and not give up another run in the final six innings of the game.
Grete yielded three hits and three runs in the top of the first inning when Colgate's Steph Jacoby hit a two-run double to deep center field. Colgate added another run in the second to jump out to a 4-0 lead.
Grete singled to give Army its first hit in the third. Grete would come around to score on a wild pitch.
Army would respond with two more runs in the sixth on a sac-fly by Lauren Little and an RBI single by Brook Mitchell to cut the lead, 4-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Maddie Wilkes hit a sac-fly to score the tying run and send the game into extras.
In the bottom of the eight, Mitchell came up clutch again, singling through the left side to score Kayla Edwards, who reached on a single to win Game 1, 5-4.
Mitchell was 2-4 with two RBIs.
Game 2
Freshman Ashton White blasted a two-run go-ahead home run to left-center in the bottom of the sixth to give Army a 2-0 lead.
Alicyn Grete would hit an RBI single to make it a 3-0 game.
Sophomore pitcher Olivia Farris cashed in her finest outing of the season, pitching a complete game, yielding just one run to go along with five strikeouts.
