Army Drops Both Games in Doubleheader Despite Strong Start

Vestal, NY – The Army West Point softball team (17-31, 7-5 PL) dropped both games against the Binghamton Bearcats (26-13, 10-4 AEC) on Wednesday. In Game 1, the Black Knights tallied 12 hits. Angelina Bebek and catcher Maddie Wilkes both had solo home runs, with RBIs added from Ashton White (2) and Julia Farris (1). and an RBI in Game 2.
How it Happened
Game 1 (Binghamton Wins 10-6)
Army had a strong start leading by three going into the fifth inning, but couldn't hold off a late comeback by Binghamton.
The first four innings saw five of the six Black Knights runs scored. Angelina Bebek doubled to left field in the third followed by a single to right field by Taylor Brown. Ashton White drove in both runners with a hit to right field. Maddie Wilkes got herself on base, while Julia Farris hit an RBI double to bring her home. Army ended its turn in the fourth with a Bebek solo home run. Binghamton notched an RBI double and single to tally their two runs.
Alicyn Grete pitched over four innings with five strikeouts before Amanda Eaglin came in to close out the game during the fifth, notching a strikeout in the sixth.
In the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, Binghamton stormed back scoring a total of eight runs. Sophia Pappas had an RBI double and single to drive in two runs, while Shelby Carvalho capped off the sixth inning with a three-run run.
Army catcher Maddie Wilkes ripped a home run to center field, that gave the Black Knights their sixth and final run of the game.
Game 2 (Binghamton Wins 6-1)
The bats slowed down for Army in game two as the Black Knights scored one run and collected five hits.
Breanna Izzo pitched the first three innings gathering three strikeouts. Olivia Farris came in relief and finished the game with zero earned runs and one strikeout.
The first four innings were slow as Army struggled at the plate while Binghamton scored three runs on an Alli Richmond home run to left center and two RBI singles from Allison L'Amoreaux and Laney Harbaugh. Gabby Guerrero hit a three-run homer to cap off the scoring for the Bearcats.
Army's Maddie Wilkes ripped one to center field in the fifth for a solo run home run that marked the only run of the game.

- Binghamton's Alli Richmond had a solo home run.
- Binghamton infielder Gabby Guerrero hit a 3-run home run.
