Army Goes 1-1 Against Central Michigan

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The Army West Point softball team 6-12, 0-0 PL) faced off against the Central Michigan Chippewas (8-9, 0-0 MAC) in a doubleheader.
Army took Game 1, defeating the Chippewas 4-3. Central Michigan took Game two with a final score of Angelina Bebek went 2-3, having two runs, two RBIs, a double, and a home run.
How it Happened
Game 1 (Army wins 4-3)
The Central Michigan Chippewas struck first to get on the board. With bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning, Skylar Coberley was hit by a pitch, advancing the runners, sending Angela Petrovitch across the plate, making it a 1-0 game.
The Black Knights tied everything up after Kayla Edwards reached first off of an error by third baseman Emily Bracamonte, sending Angelina Bebek home, scoring the tying run.
Chippewas further extended its lead in the bottom of the third with Lucy Cronin hit a single, sending Kelsey Alexander and Michaleigh Vallimont home to score, making it a 3-0 game.
In the top of the fifth inning, Army's Angelina Bebek tied everything up hitting a two-run home run to left field, making it a 3-3 game.
The Black Knights and the Chippewas remained tied 3-3 through three innings.
In the top of the seventh inning, Army took a one run lead after Kayla Edwards hit an RBI single down the right field line, sending Caitlyn Newburn home to score.
In the bottom of the seventh Central Michigan threatened with two runners in scoring position. Army secured the win with Cronin fouling out and Bracamonte flying out to left field.
Army's Amanda Eaglin (2-1) got the win, going 6.0 innings, allowing eight hits, r runs, two earned runs, striking out two, and walking two batters.
Grace Lehto (2-4) got the loss, working 7.0 innings, allowing eight hits, four runs, while striking out 15, and no walks.
Game 2 (Central Michigan wins 3-0)
Central Michigan's starting pitcher Kaitlin Bean (3-4) got the win, pitching a complete game, and a shutout.
After three scoreless innings, the Central Michigan Chippewas got on the board first, Caitlyn Britton hitting an RBI single to left field. Lucy Cronin scored off an error by Grace Snyder.
Army threatened in the bottom of the fourth with Angelina Bebek hitting a single, getting on base.
Central Michigan threatened to extend their lead with Tolmie ripping a single to left field. The Black Knights got out of the inning with a strikeout and a fly ball to centerfield.
Army threatened the Chippewas with Maddie Wilkes hitting a single to left field. In the top of the sixth, Central Michigan's Cronin hit a 2-run blast, giving the Chippewas a lead to 3-0.
Central Michigan's starting pitcher Kaitlin Bean (3-4) got the win, pitching a complete game, a shutout and pitched a complete game.
Army's Olivia Farris (2-5) got the loss, working, 5.0 innings, allowing six hits, three runs, struck out two, and walked four.
Breanna Izzo went 2.0 innings, giving up two hits. Izzo did not allow any runs and had one strikeout.
Next Up
Army will return to the diamond to compete in the UNF Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. The Black Knights will compete in a doubleheader against Troy University on Friday, March 10 at 3:00 p.m.
