Men's Tennis Picks Up Victories Over Coast Guard and St. Bonaventure

WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point men's tennis (12-8, 1-0 Patriot League) took down the US Coast Guard Academy in a 7-0 sweep before claiming a 5-2 win versus St. Bonaventure on Sunday from Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Black Knights come away with a 3-0 record on the weekend after returning home for the first time since Feb. 12.
Army saw wins on all three courts against Coast Guard to jump out to a 1-0 lead. A.J. Woodman and Thomas Lake (6-2) took care of business on court one while Nathan Jose and Jake Huarte posted a (6-4) win on court two. Marcus Sebastian and Paul Roberts also took down their opponents on court three (6-2) to get Army rolling.
Moving to singles, Jack Hanna cruised to a (6-0, 6-0) victory on court five while Daniel Choi dropped just one game throughout his (6-0, 6-1) win on court six. The match was clinched soon after by Jake Huarte on court three (6-2, 6-3). Woodman made good on court one with a (6-1, 6-3) win to improve to 4-0 on the weekend across all matches. Marcus Sebastian added a win on court four (6-4, 6-4) and Thomas Lake secured the clean sweep for Army with a 10-4 win in a third set tiebreak.
Returning against the Bonnies, a highly contested doubles bout came down to a third set tiebreak with Vishnu Bodavula and Samuel Eden on court one. Nathan Jose and Jake Huarte had claimed a (7-5) victory to give Army a chance for the doubles point. Bodavula and Eden went on to win three straight points for a 7-3 victory in the tiebreak to give Army a 1-0 lead.
Samuel Haikal gave Army a 2-0 lead with a (6-4, 6-4) win on court four as Thomas Lake quickly made it 3-0 on court one with a (6-4, 6-2) triumph. Nathan Jose eventually clinched the match for the Black Knights with a (6-2, 6-4) win on court five. After the Bonnies posted a pair of third set victories, Daniel Zhou went into a third set tiebreak on court six. Zhou fell behind 6-2 in the tiebreak before rattling off six straight points to win the match, surviving four straight match points.
