Women's Basketball Bows Out in Overtime in Patriot League Semifinal at Top-Seeded Boston University

BOSTON, MA – Army West Point women's basketball (13-17, 10-8 PL) rallied from 16-down in the second half to force overtime against top-seeded Boston University (24-7, 17-1 PL), eventually falling to the Terriers in the Patriot League semifinals. The Terriers outscored the Black Knights 16-0 in the extra frame, pushing the final score to 84-68.
Reese Ericson logged 19 points behind a career-high five three-pointers made, adding five assists to lead the Black Knights. Sabria Hunter registered her 18th double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds on 5-7 shooting from the field.
Army started hot from downtown, with its first three baskets coming from beyond the arc. Hope Brown knocked down a pair while Ericson continued her hot shooting with a trey. Back-to-back buckets from Ericson eventually gave Army a 15-6 lead with 2:56 to play in the quarter. Ericson and Brown each hit on another three before the end of the quarter, combining for 19 of Army's 21 points in the opening frame. Army took a 21-13 lead into the second quarter.
The Terriers turned the game on its head in the second quarter, holding Army to just 3-13 from the while making ten field goals of their own. Caitlin Weimar logged nine points and five rebounds in the frame, as Boston ended the half on a nine-point run. Ericson led the Black Knights in the first half with ten points and three assists.
The Terriers capped an eventual 16-0 as part of a greater 31-7 run for a 44-28 lead with 8:20 to go in the third. Army quickly began its comeback trail after a timeout. Sam McNaughton connected on a pair of baskets, including a three while Natalie Rhine added her second three of the game to cut it down to ten at 46-36. Ericson caught fire at the end of the quarter, truly sparking the Black Knights comeback. The Patriot League Rookie of the Year connected on all three looks from downtown in the frame, including a three on Army's final possession which made it a 56-49 deficit for Army.
Army chipped away as part of a balanced scoring effort in the fourth. Army outscored the Terriers 19-12 in the final ten minutes to force the extra period. Sabria Hunter converted an and-one make it a four-point game with 6:15 to play, which was quickly followed by a McNaughton three on Army's next possession which made it a 63-62 Boston advantage.

Following a 3-0 spurt from Boston, Army found itself inbounding off a timeout with 28 second remaining. Lauren Lithgow was fouled on a three-pointer off the inbounds, with the junior needing all three free throws to tie the score. Clutch as can be, Lithgow drained all three shots to setup Army with one defensive stand to force overtime. The Black Knights did just that, forcing a missed jump shot from Sydney Johnson.
