Softball Falls to Longwood and Baylor to Conclude Getterman Classic

WACO, TX – In the final day of the Getterman Classic hosted by Baylor, the Black Knights played a doubleheader against Longwood and Baylor, dropping both contests by scores of 6-5 and 7-0, respectively.
Game 1 vs. Longwood: Army attacked early, scoring two runs in the first inning after a Brook Mitchell walked and Ellie Caldwell and Taylor Brown reached on errors to score Mitchell and Caldwell.
Amanda Eaglin started for the Black Knights and went 2.2 innings giving up seven hits and two earned runs.
The Lancers struck in the top of the third inning when Lauren Taylor hit a solo home run to left field and Emily Vinson hit an RBI double to tie the game at 2-2.
Longwood jumped out to a 4-2 lead on an RBI single from L. Taylor.
Army took the lead in the bottom of the sixth, 5-4 after a base-loaded walk by Brook Mitchell and a sacrifice fly by Ellie Caldwell.
However, Army could not hang on to the lead in the seventh, as Longwood's Sophia Knock hit a two-run single up the middle to take a 6-5 lead.
Army would place the tying run on third in the bottom of the seventh but could not score.
Angelina Bebek went 2-3 with a 2B. Taylor Brown was 1-3 with a 2B and an RBI.
GAME 2 vs. Baylor:
In game two against Baylor, the Bears jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning with four runs. Aliyah Binford had the biggest knock, a two-run double to pull Baylor ahead 3-0.
After Army was retired in order in the top of the second, Shaylon Govan gave Baylor a 7-0 lead with a two-run single. Army had its first baserunner in the third after Angelina Bebek reached on an error, but the Black Knights were unable to capitalize.
After coming on in relief in the bottom of the second, Breanna Izzo settled in and retired the side in order in the third. Kayla Edwards got Army in the hit column with a base knock in the fourth, but Baylor's RyLee Crandall continued her dominant effort in the circle, eventually tossing six shutout innings.
Izzo was the story for Army, eventually setting down 10 straight Bears on her way to five innings out of the pen allowing just two hits and one run to extend the game to the seventh inning. Army had the first two runners on in the seventh, after Taylor Brown reached on an error and Maddie Wilkes collected a base hit, but Army was unable to push a run across as the Black Knights fell by a final score of 7-0 to close out the weekend.
