Swim and Dive Has Strong Day Two; Men’s Swim Sit in First Place, Women Maintain Second Place

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Army West Point men's swim and dive team currently sit in first place with 305.5 points. The women's team is in second place with 246 points.
The Black Knights had 10 Cadet-athletes on the podium. After day two the men's swim and dive team is in first place with 305.5 points. Navy sits in second place with 298.5 points, and Bucknell sits in third with 192.5 points. On the Women's side, Navy is in first place with 268.5 points, while Army is in second place with 246 points, and Bucknell is in third with 180 points. The Black Knights broke Academy records in the women's 500 Free, women's 400 Medley Relay, the men's 400 Medley Relay, and the men's 500 Free.
The Men's Meet
The Black Knights came out firing on all cylinders in Day Two of the Patriot League Championship. In the first event, Army's Brice Barrieault won the 500 Free with a time of 4:20.25. Navy's Andrew Everet earned silver with a time of 4:21.23, and Wes Tate earned bronze with a final time of 4:21.33. With his first-place finish, Barrieault broke the Academy record for the 500 Free (4:20.66, Tom Ottman, 2018).
In the 200 IM, Sam Wesley earned gold with a final time of 1:45.81. Loyola's Max Verheyen finished second by one hundredth of a second (1:45.82) and John Gehrig of Bucknell earned brinze with a final time of 1:46.21. In the 50 Free, Owen Harlow won bronze with a time of 19.98. Leo Kuyl of Bucknell (19.75) and Loyola's Caleb Kelly (19.76) finished first and second respectively.
In the 400 Medley Relay, Navy finished first with a final time of 3:09.22, Army's Alex Edwards, Kohen Rankin, Jacob Powell, and Owen Harlow followed, finishing second with a time of 3:11.42, breaking an Academy record (McKenrick, Almand, Doo, Zock, 3:12.89, 2019). Bucknell earned bronze with a final time of 3:13.34.
The Women's Meet
On the women's side Army came out strong with Molly Webber winning gold in the 500 Free with a time of 4:47.90, breaking an Academy record (Sabrina Mortell, 4:49.59, 2016). Bucknell's Sabrina Vumbacco followed, finishing second with a final time of 4:48.23 and Navy's Cameron Horner came in third with a time of 4:50.50.
Lily Mead of Loyola won the 200 IM with a final time of 1:58.45, Navy's Lauren Walsh earned silver with a time of 2:00.10, and Army's Catriona Gilmore finished third with a final time of 2:00.58. Melinda Zhang finished sixth with a time of 2:02.69. In the 50 Free, American's Mimi Watts finished first with a time of 22.52. Meghan Cole won silver (22.93), and Maya Novack of Navy finished third (23.43).
Army won the 400 Medley Relay, Army's Layne Peterson, Aurelie Migault, Meghan Cole, and Clara Williams finished first with a time of 3:39.12, breaking an Academy record (Carag, Morel, Huang, Berg, 3:40.45, 2020). Navy finished second with a time of 3:39.70, and Loyola earned bronze with a final time of 3:43.09.
On the boards, Minh Donnell earned silver in the 1M Dive with a final score of 296.25. Sumi Cameron of Boston University finished first with a score of 300.32 and Boston's Sophia Souza finished third with a final score of 287.20.

What's Next
The Black Knights will return to the pool for Day Three of the Patriot League Championship on Friday, February 18, starting at 10 a.m. with a prelim session and finishing the day with finals at 6 p.m. Teams will compete in the 100 Fly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, and the men's 1M Dive.
