Indiana and Army have been playing basketball for more than 120 years, but have never met until Sunday, just 11 days after Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight's passing. Curry would score the first five points for the Black Knights and then Charlie Peterson would nail a three in his return home to put Army up 8-3.
After Indiana tied things at 11-11, the Black Knights used an 8-0 run from Curry, AJ Allenspach, and Indiana native Blake Barker to race out to a 19-11 lead.
The Hoosiers would slowly chip away before taking their first lead since 2-0 with 1:07 left in the first half. They would go into halftime up 32-31.
The second half began with a Curry floater to regain the lead. After Indiana regained the lead, Barker would nail a three falling out of bounds as the shot clock expired to put the Black Knights up by two.
Down by three, Jared Cross would recreate the Barker three to tie things up with 14:21 left in the ball game.
The Hoosiers would use 5-0 run minutes later to take an eight point lead but Army would battle back, chopping the lead to just two with 5:10 left after Curry nailed yet another three. Barker would hit a layup on the next trip down the court to tie things up.
Indiana then went on a 12-3 run to go up by nine with 43 seconds left. Barker would hit one more three but ultimately the Black Knights would fall 72-64.
Entering the game, the Columbus, Ind. native had a career high of six points. In his return home Barker, dropped 14 points, tied his career high with three rebounds and two steals, while also adding three assists.
Ryan Curry continued to impressive, the freshman walked into one of the most historic venues in college basketball and dropped a game-high 20 points on 4-8 shooting from three, and a team-high four assists. He also had two rebounds and one steal. He also tied for the team-high with a +/- of eight.
