Men’s Tennis Posts Pair of Victories in Season-Opening Weekend

WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point men's tennis (2-1, 1-0 PL) returned to begin its spring 2023 season, hosting a triad of matches at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Black Knights fell in the opener to North Dakota, before logging a pair of convincing 6-1 victories over Colgate and Rider.
Vishnu Bodavula collected a pair of singles victories to begin his sophomore campaign for the Black Knights.
In the Patriot League opener versus Colgate, Army was able to claim the doubles point with a win from Nathan Jose and Jake Huarte along with a tiebreak victory from A.J. Woodman and Thomas Lake to start the Black Knights off with a lead. Lake and Huarte each recorded straight set victories in singles, followed by Samuel Haikal and Vishnu Bodavula. Woodman claimed his match on court one in the third set, propelling Army to the 6-1 scoreline.
Returning on Sunday versus Rider, it was the duos of Jack Hanna/Stanley Liu and Michael Rooney/Daniel Choi who helped Army earn the doubles point. Bodavula made quick work on court one, dropping just three games across a two-set victory. Paul Roberts opened his singles account with a straight set victory, while Marcus Sebastian and Hanna each helped Army secure the 6-1 victory with two-set triumphs. Daniel Choi took down his opponent in the long three-set singles match.
