AUBURN, AL. - Army West Point women's soccer fell on the road to No. 11 Auburn in a tightly-contested 1-0 affair. The game concluded the Black Knights four-game road trip as the team will return home for its next match against Wagner College this Thursday.
It marked the first meeting between the two programs and was the Black Knights second consecutive game on the road versus a ranked opponent. The teams struggled to find sight of goal through the first twenty minutes, with the lone effort on target coming from Army's Dara Murray in the fifth minute while Emma Richey blocked the Tigers first shot attempt.
Auburn would find the first goal of the game off its first corner opportunity via an M.E. Craven header in the 28th minute. The game returned to its strict form for the final 15 minutes, with the Tigers adding two more corner kicks to no avail as the teams went into halftime with a 1-0 score.
The game continued to take place around midfield to begin the second half, with neither team threatening through the early stages. Army's next sight on goal came from a long-range strike by Keira Vesy in the 65th minute, forcing a save from well over 40 yards out from goal. Sage Stroham was tested for the first time in the second half just a few minutes later, collecting her lone save of the contest.
The Black Knights were able to feed the ball into the box one last time across the final stages of the game, with the Tigers getting a critical block in on a Cami Silvestro shot attempt. Following waves of substitutions, Auburn were able to see out the remaining final minutes on the clock to secure the one-goal victory.
