WORCESTER, Mass. - Army West Point men's soccer utilized three second-half goals for a comeback victory at Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon. Gage Guerra netted two goals to help the Black Knights to a 2-0 start to Patriot League play as Army extends its unbeaten streak to five games.
Meeting for the first time since sixth-seeded Army knocked off the Crusaders in last season's Patriot League Quarterfinals, the Black Knights struggled to find their footing in the first half. Holy Cross hit the front in the 34th minute through Evan Jones, as Army failed to produce a shot on target in the first 45 minutes.
The Black Knights came out determined in the second half, holding possession and earning multiple free kicks through the early stages. In the 57th minute, Cooper Warren's corner kick was tapped in by Gage Guerra on the goal line, equalizing for the Black Knights as Guerra netted his second in as many games. Army would continue on the front foot, with Guerra eventually standing over a long-distance free kick in the 62nd minute. Guerra would force a save from the Crusaders goalkeeper, with Jack Meyer being next on the spot to slot home the rebound and give Army a 2-1 lead.
Looking to completely turn the game on its head, Guerra stood over a free kick in a very dangerous position just five minutes later. True to his recent form, Guerra placed the shot perfectly into the top right corner of the net, extending the Black Knights advantage to 3-1. Holy Cross would not go down quietly, bringing it back to a one-goal game with a goal in the 77th minute. The biggest moment of the closing minutes came with 100 seconds remaining, as Josh Taylor made a pivotal save from a close-range effort to ensure the Army victory.

Coach's Corner
"What an effort from the group. They responded to the challenge of a halftime deficit. After the game, I told them it's very hard to win games on the road and it's even harder to win road games when you don't play well but it's the sign of a good team to do so. Holy Cross pushed us to the very end but we will take the points. We have a quick turnaround to recover before coming back up to Massachusetts play BU on Wednesday." - head coach Brian Plotkin
