COACH'S CORNER
About the event
"This meet has a long history as a regional championship on both the men's and women's sides. Teams from the northeast and mid-Atlantic typically compete at this championship and in most years it is a very competitive meet. It hasn't been held at William and Mary in close to 30 years so this was a new experience for almost everyone on our team. Coming off the conference meet last weekend and the ensuing week of final exams we knew we wouldn't be able to travel our full lineup down here so we have much less depth than we normally would at a championship meet like this. Having said that the people that are here are some of our top performers and their results so far reflect the strength of our team."
On Saturday
"Emily Fink was our only winner today in what has become a familiar outcome. She wasn't happy with the mark but again it is tough to come off the conference meet and final exams and light up the scoreboard. She continues to impress in any and all conditions and has responded well to coach Hershberger's coaching. We scored well in some other events and I saw good competitive efforts from everyone. I expected us to be a little flat and while that can be frustrating there is value in working through that adversity. For some that was their experience today. We have a few opportunities to score points on Sunday and I think if we stay composed, we can have some success."
On Sunday
"We only competed in a few events today and came away with one win. Grace Reinhardt has been our most consistent high jumper this year and today that consistency paid off in a win. She cleared the first two bars on her first attempt and then had a very good attempt at the third bar but just clipped it. A few of the other competitors had some misses so Grace ended up with the win. It was a nice end to a fine career. The women claimed a 6th place finish with those final points and that effectively ended the season for the majority of our team. We now await the results from around the country to see who we will advance to the NCAA regional prelims. I expect that we will get about 5 women into the meet. The top 12 finishers at the regional will advance to the NCAA championship in Eugene."
UP NEXT
Black Knights who have qualified for the NCAA East Regionals will compete from May 25-28 in Bloomington, Ind.
