Army Battles Lehigh on the Opening Day of Patriot League Tournament

BOSTON, Mass. ---- Army West Point Softball (20-33, 10-8) fell to Lehigh (27-17-1, 15-3) 3-2 in the opening round of the Patriot League Tournament, on Thursday afternoon.
How It Happened
From the opening pitch the game was a pitchers' duel. Both teams were retired in order in the first inning. Lehigh got on the board first in the bottom of the second scoring one run off two hits.
Army battled back in the top of the fourth scoring two runs on four hits to jump to a 2-1 lead. The rally started with a two-out single to left center by Maddie Wilkes. She was quickly moved to second by a base hit off the bat of Jolie Duong. With two on and two out, Madi Gilmore took the batter's box and fired off an RBI double down the right field line to tie the game up at 1-1. The momentum didn't stop there as Lauren Little hit an RBI single that gave Army the 2-1 lead.
Lehigh answered back in the bottom half of the inning with two runs on three hits to take a 3-2 lead over Army.
Duong (10-12) was dealing in the circle for Army. She tossed two strikeouts and only allowed five hits. She retired the next five batters after the Lehigh scored in the bottom of the fourth and did not give up another hit the rest of the contest.
Army was unable to bounce back falling 3-2 to Lehigh.
