Black Knights Fall to Great Danes on the Road

ALBANY, N.Y. --- Army West Point Softball (9-23, 0-1) battled with Albany (12-11, 1-2) but dropped the doubleheader to the Great Danes on Wednesday afternoon.

GAME 1
Army was on Albany's heels the entire game keeping the Great Danes off the board for five innings but ultimately fell 2-0.
Kayla Edwards fired off the first hit of the game in the top of the first with a triple to center field. Army was unable to bring Edwards stranding her on third. Albany put the first run on the board scoring off a sacrifice fly.
The teams remained scoreless for the next four innings as the game turned into a battle of the pitchers. Jolie Duong (4-8) was in the circle for Army, helping keep Albany scoreless for four innings. The righthanded pitcher finished the game with four strikeouts.

In the bottom of the sixth, Albany plated one run off a passed ball to take a 2-0 lead over Army. Edwards tried to rally the Black Knights in the top of the seventh by recording her second hit of the day, a base hit. Army was unable to bring her home falling 2-0 to Albany.
GAME 2
Army brought the bats in game two to take its first lead of the series but were out hit by Albany and fell 8-5 to the Great Danes.
Edwards picked up right where she left off with a base hit in the top of the first for the Black Knights. Army was unable to bring her home, leaving her on base and heading to the field. Emily Iannotti was dealing in the circle for the Black Knights recording her seventh start of the season.
Albany score two runs in the bottom of the first to claim the early lead over Army.
Madi Gilmore fired up the bats in the top of the second with a leadoff single. She kept the momentum going by stealing second. The next two batters reached base to load the bases for the Black Knights. Lauren Little took the batter's box with two outs on the board and fired off a two RBI single to right field to tie the game up at 2-2. Army finished the half inning with two runs on three hits.
The teams were silent through the third and fourth inning before Army broke the silence in the top of the fifth. Edwards got the momentum going with a leadoff walk and was quickly move to second by a base hit from Kaci Donaldson. Ellie Caldwell reached first on an error and Army had the bases loaded with two outs on the board. Mikayla Klepfer and Julianna LaRusso each battled at the plate drawing walks to lift Army to a 4-2 lead. Caldwell scored the final run for Army off an error to make the score 5-2 in Army's favor.
Olivia Farris (0-12) entered the circle for Army and helped keep Albany off the board in the sixth inning. Albany fought back in the bottom of the seventh winning the game 8-5, off a  walk off three RBI home run.

Army travels to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on the Bucknell Bison in a weekend series on April 9-10.Â
