Men’s Tennis Advances To Patriot League Championship Match

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 3 seed Black Knights defeated second-seeded Lehigh, 4-1, in the Patriot League Semifinals on Saturday, avenging a regular-season defeat to the Mountain Hawks. Army will face No. 1 seed Navy for the championship title on Sunday.
DOUBLES (2,3)
The Black Knights won the doubles point after picking up victories in two and three doubles. The nO. 2 team of Sam Eden and Diego Huttepain won the last three points to win the match. The match was on serve at 4-3, when the duo broke to take a 5-3 lead. They would then jump out to a 40-0 lead before winning the point for a 6-3 win. In three doubles, the tandem of Nathan Jose and Jake Huarte broke their opponent at 2-2 on their way tot a 6-4 win to clinch the point.
SINGLES (4, 5, 6, 2)
Army won in four, six and in two singles. In No. 4 singles, Thomas Lake defeated Gary Fishkin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Lake broke Fishkin early in the first set on his way to a 6-3 win. Lake had to rally from 2-0 deficit in the second set. He won three straight games for a 3-2 lead, and then later broke Fishin's serve at 3-3. Lehigh won in five singles as Army led 2-1.
Jake Huarte won a three-set match in six singles. He blanked Michael Bukhalo, 6-0, in the first set before being edged 6-4 in the second set. Huarte raced out to a 3-0 lead in third set but Bukhalo rallied to tie the set at 4-4. Huarte held his serve and then broke Bukhalo to win the match.
Two minutes after the conclusion of Huarte's match, A.J. Woodman finished off Matt Kleiman in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5. In the first set he sprinted to a 4-0 lead en route to a 6-4 win. Woodman had to battle from two games down twice in the second set. Trailing 5-3, he won the next two games to the set at 5-5. Now on serve, he trailed 40-15 before winning the next three points to take a 6-5 lead. He trailed 40-15 in the next game before rallying to win the game 7-5 to clinch the match.

- Army will face top-seeded Navy in the Patriot League Championship match on Sunday at 1 p.m. This will be the eighth consecutive meeting in the championship match.
