WEST POINT, N.Y. – The fifth-ranked Black Knights fell to rival Navy, 12-11, in an overtime thriller on Saturday in the latest installment of the Star Series presented by USAA.
GAME SUMMARY
The 103rd meeting between Army and Navy was decided in overtime for the second time in the last three encounters. The contest was decided by Navy's Jack Sweeney who scored a man-up goal 58 seconds into the first overtime period.
The Black Knights rallied from a two-goal deficit midway through the fourth quarter to take an 11-10 lead with five minutes remaining. Trailing 10-8 with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter, the trio of Brendan Nichtern, Reese Burek, and Danny Kielbasa all scored in two minutes. However, the Mids tied the game with 1:57 on the clock. Army had possession in the final minute of the quarter when Nichtern had a pair of shots go wide in the final seconds.
Navy struck first to start the game, but Army ended the first quarter with a 4-2 lead. Reese Burek scored the Black Knights' first goal 10 seconds after the Navy goal. Paul Johnson, Jacob Morin, and Gunner Philipp added goals in the quarter. Army tact on two goals in the second quarter to take a 6-3 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Mids reeled off three-straight goals to tie the game at 6-6 with four minutes left in the quarter. Nichtern broke the tie with a goal at the 3:44 mark and Johnson followed for an 8-6 lead. Navy scored with one minute left in the third, which started a scoring run. The Mids netted three goals early in the fourth quarter to take a 10-8 lead.

- Brendan Nichtern led the Black Knights with four points to share game-high honors. His hat-trick set a new personal career record in goals for a season with 33.
- Reese Burek had three points on two goals and one assist.
- Paul Johnson added a pair of goals.
- Jacob Morin scored twice.
- Will Coletti secured a game-high seven ground balls.
