WEST POINT, N.Y. – In a battle between Patriot League powers, the No. 9 Black Knights were edged by the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, 11-10, on Saturday.
GAME SUMMARY
The Black Knights and Mountain Hawks went toe-to-toe for 60 minutes, but it was the visitors who escaped with the win. Lehigh jumped out to a 4-0 lead, while the Black Knights did manage to tie the game, they never led.
Paul Johnson got Army on the board with a goal at 4:42 left in the first quarter as Army trailed 4-1 at the end of the first quarter; however, the goal sparked a run by Army. The Black Knights scored the next three goals to tie the game at 4-4. Johnson added his second at the 12-minute mark and Jame Pryor scored one minute later. The game-tying goal came from Danny Kielbasa on a man-up advantage with 4:46 left in the half. However, Lehigh went into the break with a 5-4 lead. The Black Knights outshot the Mountain Hawks, 17-6, in the quarter.

Lehigh outscored Army, 4-1, in the third quarter with Bo Waters scoring the lone goal for the Black Knights. Trailing 9-5 at the start of the fourth quarter, Army roared back into the game with three goals in the first five minutes of the quarter. Brendan Nicthern netted his team-leading 20th goal 41 seconds into the quarter. He then assisted on the next two goals. He found Aidan Byrnes for a man-up goal and connected with Reese Burek as Army trailed 9-8 with 10 mintues remaining.

Lehigh made a two-goal game with a goal at the 8:54 mark before Jacob Morin cut the lead to 10-9 with 6:49 left. The Mountain Hawks scored with 5:40 on the clock for an 11-9 advantage. Army had a few scoring chances before Morin netted his second of the game with 54 seconds remaining. However, Lehigh won the ensuing faceoff and ran out the clock.
CADET CAPSULES
- Brendan Nichtern finished with a game-high five points on a game-high four assists and one goal. He is four points away from tying the career points record held by Tim Pearson'02 (138) and three assists away from Pearson for the all-time assists mark (142).
- Paul Johnson scored two goals for his sixth multi-goal game of the season.
- Reece Burek was second on the team in points with three (2 assists, 1 goal).
- Jacob Morin netted two goals.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Black Knights had their 14-game home win streak, a program-record at Michie Stadium, snapped which was tied for the longest in the nation.
- Army had 11 caused turnovers which ties a season-high.
