Softball Drops Decision to Stony Brook

TAMPA, Fla. --- Army West Point Softball (5-15) fell on the final day of the USF Tournament, 10-1 to Stony Brook (9-5) in five innings, on Saturday morning.
Maddie Wilkes led Army at the plate going 2-for-2 with one run and one double. Leila Hurst had a strong day at the plate going 2-for-2 with one RBI and a double.
How It Happened
Wilkes fired off a double in the top of the first for Army's first hit. Hurst followed with a double of her own to bring in Wilkes, giving Army the 1-0 lead. Jolie Duong (4-5) was solid in the bottom of the first, retiring the first three batters to get Army to back to the dugout.
In the bottom of the second, Stony Brook scored six runs on five hits to take the lead from Army, 6-1. The Black Knights had trouble keeping up with Stony Brook's offense. Emily Iannotti entered the circle as relief and helped slow the Seawolves' offense down in the bottom of the third as she recorded three strikeouts and stranded a runner on base.
Wilkes helped Army make a last second push with a base hit in the top of the fourth. Hurst followed with another base hit, but the Black Knights were unable to bring the two runners home. Stony Brook scored four more runs of three hits and two errors in the bottom of the fourth making the final score 10-1.
