BOSTON – Four Black Knights scored in double figures as the Army West Point men's basketball team was edged in the final second by the Boston University Terriers on Wednesday night.
GAME SUMMARY
Sukhmail Mathon's layup and free throw with one second on the clock lifted the Terriers to the win as the host scored the game's final six points.
Army, which trailed by nine points in the second half, led 74-69 with 2:20 remaining after a 3-pointer by Jalen Rucker. However, the Black Knights went scoreless for the rest of the game including missing the front-end of a 1-and-1 free throw with eight seconds left. Boston U's Daman Tate connected on a 3-pointer with 1:19 to cut Army's lead to 74-72. Army's empty possessions set up a chance for the Terriers and they capitalized with Mathon's 3-point play.
Three consecutive layups – Chris Mann, Charlie Peterson, and Josh Caldwell – gave Army an 18-12 lead. BU regained the lead at 27-26 before Peterson put Army in front on the next possession. BU's Miles Brewster hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds left in the half for a 36-33 lead, but Josh Caldwell scored a layup as time expired.
The scoring pace picked up in the early stages of the second half. The Terriers used an 8-0 run to create the game's largest lead at 52-43 with 14:26 left. However, the Black Knights chipped away at the deficit, eventually retaking the lead as part of a 7-0 run to lead 65-63 with 7:21 remaining. Army either led or the score was tied until the last second of the game.

COACH'S CORNER
"It's a gut punch on how the game ended. We weren't happy with how we played the last two games. We didn't play freely or with intensity. What we saw tonight made me as proud as I have been this year. We played a solid game against a team that has been around for a while and has won championships. We didn't finish the game the way we needed to. A few defensive and offensive breakdowns but I'm proud of this team." – Jimmy Allen
