Army Downs Lafayette For Fifth Straight Win

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army Black Knights notched their fifth consecutive win after defeating the Lafayette Leopards in four sets on Saturday afternoon on senior day.

Match SynopsisÂ
Before the match, the program honored the senior class as captain Sayler Butters is the lone cadet-athlete in the class.
In the opening set, Army took a 3-0 lead but had to rally to win the set. The Leopards led 18-15 after breaking the 12-12 tie with a 6-3 spurt. Trailing 20-17, the Black Knights scored three straight points, with Julia Johnson contributing with a kill and an ace, to tie the set. Savannah Bray broke the 21-21 tie with a kill as Army scored four of the five final points.
The second set had seven ties and five lead changes with the Leopards taking the set after scoring four straight points, 25-21. The Black Knights bounced back in the third set. Army held off Lafayette to pull out a 25-22 win.
In the fourth set, the Black Knights closed the match with their offensive set. They finished with 16 kills, a .306 hitting percentage and 72 percent on sideouts which were all match-best numbers. Â
Cadets Capsules
- Paige Fixemer led the match in kills with 16, in points with 21.5, and in aces with three. She also had three block assists and one solo block.
- Allanah Cutler was second on the team in kills with 14 and in points with 15.5.
- Savannah Bray collected a double-double for the third straight match with 12 kills and 10 digs.
- Diana Ethridge led the match with 45 assists which is her fourth straight match with 40-plus assists.
- Sayler Butters had a match-high 23 digs. Butters was honored
Inside the Numbers
- Army extended its win streak to five matches which ties its longest win streak of the season.
- Alma Kovaci Lee is two wins away from 300 career wins.
- The Black Knight have won 20 of the last 21 meetings with the Leopards.
