WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point golf team and head coach Chad Bagley have announced the hiring of Neal Grusczynski as an assistant coach.
"The Army golf family is excited to welcome Coach Grusczynski back to West Point," Bagley said. "Neal is a talented coach with a winning track record; and his previous experience at USMA will ensure we continue to achieve our mission of developing leaders of character and being the best version of ourselves on the fields of friendly strife."
Grusczynski returns to Army West Point after spending time in his native city of Milwaukee serving as the head boys golf coach at Muskego High School and working with junior golfers at his Collegiate Prep Golf School.
"To have an opportunity to come back and contribute to the Army golf team at West Point is humbling and a huge honor," Grusczynski said. "I would like to thank Coach Bagley for believing in me and my family, as we are looking forward to contributing to the success of the cadet student athletes through the game of golf."
Grusczynski served as the head Men's golf coach at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, July of 2019 through December 2020.
Before coaching in Athens, he was the director of golf and head men's and women's golf coach at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee.
Prior to his stint at Cardinal Stritch, Grusczynski served as the assistant coach for both the men's and women's teams at Jacksonville State in 2014-15, then served as the assistant coach at Army in 2015-16.
Both the men's and women's golf programs at Cardinal Stritch enjoyed success under Grusczynski's guidance. The men's program won the 2016 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championships, then earned a 14th-place finish at the NAIA National Championships. The 2017 season was followed up by a repeat victory at the 2017 CCAC Championships and a runner-up finish at the NAIA National Championships. In 2018, Grusczynski continued his success, with the men's program capturing the 2018 CCAC Championship. From there, the Wolves went on to compete at the NAIA National Championship Tournament, finishing in 16th place. The women's team finished third at the 2016 CCAC Championships and won its first CCAC Championship title in 2017, giving the program its first bid to the NAIA National Championship. The Wolves saw their student-athletes earn 11 individual wins between the men's and women's team under Grusczynski's leadership.
Grusczynski was involved in all aspects of the golf program during his previous time as an assistant for the Army golf team '15-'16 season. He helped coach the Black Knights to a victory over Navy and was involved with the Inaugural Bush Cup against Yale, held in honor of former United States President George H.W. Bush at the prestigious Winged Foot Golf Club.
Grusczynski brings diverse experience from the golf world, having spent time in pro shops, corporate golf and collegiate golf, as well as a successful playing career at the amateur and professional levels. Grusczynski's impressive list of accolades includes playing professionally on the NGA-Hooters Tour from 2005-08. During the tour, he participated in numerous PGA/Web.com qualifiers, PGA Tour Q-Schools, pro-ams and junior clinics. Neal has also caddied on the PGA Tour for his best friend Kevin Hall and on the Symetra Tour (@ROAD2LPGA) for Shannon Fish.
Grusczynski graduated from Xavier University with a bachelor's degree in sport management in 2005. Neal is currently the only XU men's golfer to have competed in every event all 4 years of his eligibility finishing 9th on all time scoring average with 74.44. He was A-10 Rookie of the year and capped off his collegiate career competing for the Musketeers by earning the individual co-champion title with former teammate and PGA Tour player Jason Kokrak at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships.
Neal and his wife, Leah, have 2 daughters Grace(3) and Edie(2).
