Three Hockey Alumni Set to Skate at NHL Camps
September 23, 2021 | Hockey
WEST POINT, N.Y. - With NHL training camps opening up this week, three Army West Point hockey alumni received invites to compete for a spot on an NHL roster. Trevin Kozlowski, Dominic Franco and Parker Gahagen - who all signed AHL contracts for the 2021-22 season - will attempt to earn a coveted roster spot throughout the next few weeks.Â
These three former Army standouts hope to join the list of former Army Black Knights in the NHL. That list includes Andy Lundbohm, Brad Roberts, Dan Hinote and current Army hockey Associate Head Coach, Zach McKelvie.Â
Trevin Kozlowski '21 - Iowa Wild (Minnesota Wild) - ForwardÂ
Kozlowski was a 36 game winner for Coach Brian Riley in three seasons at West Point. "Trev" was the anchor of the Army defensive unit that propelled the squad to a 15-6-1 record in 2020-21, the best season at Army since 1995-96.Â
The Los Angeles native planted his name all over the Army hockey record book, finishing his career with the lowest goals against average in a season in program history, marking a 1.91 clip in 2020-21. Kozlowski also owns the fourth highest career save percentage in program history at a .911 mark.Â
Â
Dom Franco '20 - Rochester Americans (Buffalo Sabres) - ForwardÂ
Upon his graduation in 2019, Franco signed with the AHL's Rochester Americans. The 6-foot-5 forward collected nine points off four goals and five assists in his first professional campaign.Â
Franco earned quite a few honors after a 45-goal, 52-assist career as a Cadet. Franco was a member of the All-AHA Second team in 2020 along with being named to the All-Rookie team in 2018 after a nine-goal season as a plebe. Franco was also awarded the Henry "Hal" Beukma Award - given every year to the team's most valuable player - for his leadership throughout the 2019-20 season.Â
Â
Parker Gahagen '17 - Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville Predators)- Goalkeeper
A 2017 graduate of the United States Military Academy, Parker Gahagen was a star for the Black Knights in his four seasons with the team. The Buffalo native won 40 games for Army while recording 3172 saves at a percentage of .926.Â
His best performance came in his firstie season when he started 35 games between the pipes, compiling an 18-13-4 record while stopping the puck at a 93-percent rate. That .934 percentage also stands as the highest save percentage by a goalie in a season in Army hockey history.Â
