BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a three-point performance in his first game of the season, Army West Point men's soccer senior Oscar Pereira has been named the Patriot League's Offensive Player of the Week. The Hastings-on-Hudson native played a key role in the Black Knights' offensive explosion against La Salle (Aug. 26), scoring the eventual game-winning goal and assisting on the fourth and final goal of the contest. Pereira has now scored in two straight matches and three of his past four dating back ot last season. Fellow senior Jacob Suppiah earned an honorable mention after recording a career-high seven saves against the Explorers.Â
Pereira and the Black Knights knocked the rust off quickly in the season opener, scoring four first half goals on their way to a 4-2 victory over La Salle. Pereira's efforts were aided by strong performances by plebes Andrew Guerra and Brandon Bryant, who each recorded their first goals of their careers on Thursday. The offensive onslaught resulted in the most goals for Army in a season opener since 1996 (5 vs. Manhattan).Â
