Army West Point Athletics

From the Desk of AD #31

Â
Welcome to another edition of From the Desk of the AD31. This platform is an opportunity to share my perspective and keep you informed, engaged, and connected to all that is happening within Army West Point Athletics and the Army West Point Athletic Association. My goal is to provide meaningful updates from across the department, celebrate the accomplishments of our exceptional cadet-athletes, and offer insight into the ever-evolving landscape of college athletics - all grounded in the four pillars of our Fruits of Victory strategic plan: Competitive Success, Delivering an Extraordinary Division I Experience, Public Engagement and Revenue Generation, and Sustainability.
Â
The past several weeks have been marked by tremendous success on and off the fields of friendly strife, along with valuable opportunities to connect with the Long Gray Line and Cadet Candidates across the country at Founders Day events. I extend my sincere thanks to the West Point Societies in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, Naples, Houston, Birmingham, and Huntsville for their continued support and engagement. Each visit served as a powerful reminder of the strength and pride of the Academy community, as well as a chance to share updates from West Point. In addition, highlights included a visit to the Houston Space Center and time at Fort Benning, where I had the privilege of seeing many of our graduates complete Ranger School - an experience that truly underscores what makes West Point so special! I also got to jump off the Airborne Tower (and didn't get hurt ??).

PATRIOT LEAGUE PRESIDENT'S CUP STANDINGS – ARMY LEADING!
The Patriot League Presidents' Cup is awarded to the member institution with the highest cumulative sports point total in the Patriot League standings for sponsored men's and women's sports. Our department maintained its lead in the 2025-26 Patriot League Presidents' Cup standings through the winter sports championship season, with Navy, Boston University, Lehigh and Bucknell rounding out the top five in the overall standings. As defending Patriot League Presidents' Cup champions, our Black Knights claimed 44.5 points during the winter to accumulate 86.75 total points.  Army West Point registered runner-up finishes in men's and women's indoor track and field, and men's and women's swimming and diving. Â

SWIMMING ON THE NATIONAL STAGE
Our women's and men's swimming & diving team sent athletes to Atlanta to compete in the 2026 NCAA DI Swimming & Diving Championships over the last two weeks. Catriona Gilmore, Angie McKane, and Molly Webber made history as the first Army women's swimmers to compete at the national meet since Army's women's team began competing at the DI level in 1991. On the men's side, Johnny Crush and Kohen Rankin made their returns to the national stage as individuals while Daniel Verdolaga, Thomas Hadji, Ben Vorthmann, Max Jordan, and Joey Kling took the trip down south as members of Army's three relay teams at the meet. Crush earned First Team All-American honors in the 100 back as well as combining with Rankin, Verdolaga, and Hadji for an 18th place finish in the 400 medley relay. Congratulations to Coach Nigro, his staff, and the entire Army West Point swimming & diving team on an incredible season!
