Softball Goes 2-0 Against Lafayette
May 06, 2021 | Softball
EASTON, Pa. – The Army West Point softball team defeated Lafayette in both games of its doubleheader at the Leopards' home stadium on Thursday afternoon. The Black Knights first earned a 9-0 shutout victory before defeating the home team 4-1 in game two. With the results, Army extended its current winning streak to six games.
Â
Alicyn Grete had one of the team's strongest outings of the day with her combined 5-for-7 clip at the plate and three runs scored.
Â
The first game was a scoreless battle for over four innings until Army got on the board in the top of the fifth. The Black Knights put up all nine of their runs over the following three frames, tagging on a game-high four in the top of the sixth.
Â
Army's scoring in the first game was boosted by Ally Snelling, who racked up three RBI. Additionally, she was one of three Black Knights that doubled.
Â
In the circle, Joelie Duong tossed her 24th career complete game and scattered just two hits while fanning eight batters. She improves to 8-1 on the season with the victory.
Â
The Black Knights maintained the winning momentum through the start of the second game, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Though Lafayette was able to knot things up in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double, it was the closest that the team ever got as Army held on for the win.
Â
Madi Gilmore drove in two of the team's four runs, first doing so with an RBI double in the fifth before completing the scoring with a sac fly in the seventh.
Â
Emily Iannotti shined in the circle and at one point retired 14-straight batters. She finished her day with a pair of strikeouts and issued just one walk while letting up three hits.
