Softball Drops Doubleheader to BU
April 10, 2021 | Softball
BOSTON – Army West Point softball dropped a pair of contests to Boston University Saturday afternoon. The front end of the doubleheader was a tight 4-3 decision and the Terriers took the second game 8-0.
Â
"We had some great moments today and some not so great," Army head coach Cheryl Milligan said. "We are certainly growing as a team and we need to take the lessons the games are giving us and make the necessary changes. Today we compounded mistakes which led to losses. Good teams will not let you get away with that."
Â
In the first contest, BU jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Black Knights narrowed the deficit to one after Megan Muffett sent a two-run shot over the fence in right center field. The La Center, Wash., native is now up to five home runs on the season, four of which have come in the last two weekend series.
Â
The Terriers built their lead up to two runs in the fifth inning. Army responded with a run in the top of the sixth with Angela Bebek scoring Brook Mitchell with an RBI single up the middle, but the Cadets were unable to get another on the board.
Â
After giving up three earned runs in the first, Alicyn Grete did not give up any other earned runs for the remainder of the contest on the mound.
Â
The second game was scoreless through the first two and a half innings of play. The Terriers then used a three-run third inning and a four-run fourth to push ahead 7-0. BU added one in the bottom of the fifth to earn the 8-0 win.
Â
UP NEXT
Army takes on Lafayette in its next Patriot League weekend series. The first two games will be played in Easton, Pa., on Saturday, April 24 before the two square off in a doubleheader at West Point on Sunday, April 25.
