Softball Loses Seventh Inning Stretch to Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team lost a seventh-inning nail-biter to Fordham University on Friday afternoon, 5-4.
The Black Knights had a healthy 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before the Rams caught wind on a one-out double from Rachel Hubertus.
Army saw scores from four different players including Alicyn Grete, Jolie Duong, Lauren Little and Taylor Livingston.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Grete closed out the day with 11 total strikeouts on 16 batters faced, no walks and four hits through 4.0 innings pitched. Through two games, the sophomore has amassed 20 strikeouts in 29 batters faced.
- Leila Hurst had a strong day at the plate, completing a 2-for-3 effort. Grete had a .500 performance as the leadoff, posting one hit in two at bats while recording a run, an RBI and a walk.
- Grete opened the game with a leadoff walk to give Army their first base runner of the day.
- Angelina Bebek advanced Grete on a groundout to third base, opening the door for Jolie Duong to pick up her first RBI on a double to left field.
- With runners on first and third, Duong was able to score on an error by the Rams shortstop, giving the Black Knights an early 2-0 advantage.
- Grete was lights out on the mound through the first three innings, striking out the eight on nine batters faced.
- The Black Knights picked up momentum at the plate again in the top of the fourth with an inning opening double to center by Hurst. A walk by Grace Snyder put Army in a second and third situation, allowing pinch runner Taylor Livingston to score on a wild pitch.
- Grete gave Army the 4-0 advantage with a double to right center, scoring Little.
- The Rams put two on base in the fourth, but Grete notched three more strikeouts to hold them scoreless heading into the fifth.
- Taylor Drayton gave Army their first baserunner in the top pf the fifth on a single to shortstop, but the Black Knights could not string together enough to advance her for a run.
- Duong took the mound for Army in the sixth, holding the Rams to only one hit and two runners left on base to maintain the Black Knights 4-0 lead.
- Fordham produced five runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth and seventh inning, allowing them to move past the Black Knights for a one-point victory.
