Cadets Fall in Road Contest with Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In its first game since Feb. 20, the Army West Point women's lacrosse team fell on the road to Lehigh, 14-7, Saturday afternoon.
Cameron Manor registered a team-high four points with a pair of goals and assists. Madeline Lenkart also had two goals for Army and added a helper. Lehigh's Sondra Dickey had a game-high seven points on six goals and an assist.
The Mountain Hawks jumped to a 4-0 lead in first five minutes of play and managed to take an 8-0 lead into the break. Despite the difference, Lehigh only recorded two more shots on goal than Army in the first 30 minutes of play. Lehigh's senior goalkeeper Samantha Sagi registered 10 saves in the opening stanza and went on to finish the day with 16.
The Black Knights settled in by the second half, scoring the first three goals of the frame. Jolie Riedell started the run for the Cadets with a straightaway free position goal to get Army on the board just over two minutes into the second half. A minute and a half Madeline Lenkart connected on a tough angle shot to cut Lehigh's lead to six. Manor found the back of the net with 22:22 remaining to make it 8-3.
The two teams traded then a pair of goals with Jackie Brattan and Julia Franzoni netting goals for Army. Franzoni's tally with 13:08 left in the contest cut Lehigh's lead to 10-5.
The Mountain Hawks used a 4-0 run to push ahead 14-5 by the 4:01 mark. Army added two more goals to the board with Lenkart and Manor each finding the back of the net.

The Cadets will look to bounce back next Saturday when they take on service academy foe Navy in the star game, part of the Star Series presented by USAA. The contest will be played at Michie Stadium at West Point, N.Y.
