Hockey Battles in Loss at Bentley
November 27, 2021 | Hockey
WALTHAM, Mass. – In his 600th game behind the bench for the Army West Point hockey team, Brian Riley and his squad were not able to get it going offensively, battling to a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Bentley Falcons
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Black Knights almost had the early lead when a scrum in front of the net led to opportunities for a few Cadets. Bentley kicked a pair of Army shots off the goal line to keep the game scoreless.
Army created a few scoring chances early, but Bentley countered with an attack of its own, scoring two back-to-back goals midway through the first period to take a 2-0 advantage.
Â
The powerplay unit for Army had two chances late in the period but Bentley held onto the 2-0 lead going into the first break.
Â
The Black Knights looked to respond in the second period, but were not able to capitalize on any scoring chances. The Falcons added three more goals in the period as they took a 5-0 after 40 minutes played. Justin Evenson took over the goaltending duties for Army midway through the period.
Â
Evenson stood strong after surrendering an early goal, stepping up to make a couple of tough saves down the stretch in the third period.
Â
Frost, Smyth and Bohlin also played well in the final period, creating a few shots deep in the Falcons zone. Smyth had a backhand attempt that flew just wide of the right post off a great series of passes from his linemates.
Â
Army's powerplay fired off four shots in the final minutes, but were not able to put them in the net as Bentley would go on to win, 5-0.
