Black Knights Sweep Two-Game Series at Holy Cross
January 22, 2021 | Hockey
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Army West Point hockey team completed the series sweep of Holy Cross with a 4-1 victory at Hart Center Rink on Friday.
Â
A night after riding three unanswered goals to a win, the Black Knights scored four unanswered goals to claim their fourth victory in their last five games.Â
"This was a great week. For us to be able to come out here on the road and get two wins is huge," Head Coach Brian Riley said. "We put a huge emphasis in practice this week on our intensity. We knew we had to come here and work hard and that carried over into these games."Â
Â
After falling behind 1-0, Army evened the game just 13 seconds later when Daniel Haider sent home a rebound to even the score 1-1. The Black Knights jumped ahead on an Anthony Firriolo one-timer and extended the lead on Lincoln Hatten's second goal of the year.
"It has been pretty special to see our team find its identity this past weekend," Haider said. "All our lines and D pairings played smart and played with a swagger. This weekend was a big step for us and we are looking forward to preparing for next weekend."
Â
Senior goaltender Trevin Kozlowski continued his hot streak, winning his fourth consecutive start. The streak ties the longest of his career, as he claimed four straight wins in a stretch in November and December of 2019.
"It's hard to win, but it is definitely a lot harder to get sweeps," Riley said. "We're going to enjoy this one for a couple of days and then get ready to get back to work."Â
Â
The Black Knights (5-5) will now turn their attention to Sacred Heart, who Army will face four times in the team's next five games. The teams will kick-off a home-and-home series on Jan. 29 when they meet at Tate Rink at 5:05 p.m.Â
